Another excellent revision of this series by Griffin. The Star Commando series has never lost its appeal, it is and always has been an great read. I recommend all 12 books in this series. Ms. Griffin has had the chance to revisit this series with the new publisher and freshened it up quite a bit. Our commando team once again has to do the impossible but for them that is just a test of their mettle.Product details

Return to War Book 6 in The Star Commandos Series eBook PM Griffin Reviews
I love this series...a kind of space opera. I loved the romance and how she developed the different cultures. The action was good and kept my attention, but my favorite part was the development of the relationships.
Sogan and Connor have some marital troubles - in the sense that she's a Commando Colonel and he's only an Army Captain, wich grinds him unceassingly. The team has to search and destroy a military base illegally developed on a under-populated planet. The fact that the denizens are mutants doesn't help either, as Sogan can't help but be horrified by them. The whole thing goes up with a bang and a lot of heroics.
This was my first SC book, and I loved it. Highly recommended for those into space explosions and battleships.

P.M. Griffin's Star Commandos series is perhaps one of the best Planetary Romance/Space Opera series of all time. I began reading Star Commandos because P.M. Griffin was one of the late, and much beloved Andre Norton's collaborators who relaunched Andre Norton's Time Traders series with the novel "Firebrand" and the Solar Queen series with "Redline The Stars." P.M. Griffin also co-wrote several novels and stories set in Andre Norton's Witch World. P.M. Griffin was definitely in the top tier of Andre Norton's collaborators - the other top ones being Susan Shwartz, Sherwood Smith, Jean Rabe, Ann Crispin, and Lyn McConchie.
Originally published in paperback by ACE, P.M. Griffin's Star Commandos series followed the adventures of Federation Colonel Islaen Conner and her husband Varn Tarl Sogan, former Arcturian Empire War Prince and Admiral ; and their friends and fellow commandos Bandit, Jake and Bethe.
At the heart of the series is the relationship between Varn and Islaen. Varn is an example of the broody, moody, romantic hero with a dark past who redeemed himself be refusing to commit an act of genocide in the closing days of the war between the Federation and the Arcturian Empire - which lost. It also makes Varn a marked man against those who still bare a grudge against anyone from the Arcturian Empire.
Varn has self doubts and must often set aside his own prejudices; and Islaen must struggle with her own conflicting emotions her husband's ongoing internal struggles.
On their sixth adventure, Varn, Islaen, and Bandit are aboard "The Fairest Maid," when they are alerted by the Federation of a possible situation on the planet Anath - where years before Islaen and Jake were part of a Star Commandos team that eventually overthrew an invasion force from the Arcturian Empire.
Now a distress signal from an outpost that was left behind reveals that a new invasion force of Britynons has arrived on Anath and is beginning the process of stripping all the natural resources from the planet.
Islaen, Varn, Bandit, Jake, and Bethe are supposed to just do a simple recon mission to verify if the distress signal is a legitimate one and take action, if necessary.
Yet upon arrival, the Star Commandos fine, that not all enemies are from the outside.
